AUTUMN WALKING 2010

including Walking from Casa Rif, Cañar,
Autumn in the Heights
and
Strolls, Sightseeing & Siestas - Walking for Softies
18 - 25/9/10 (BL159) - price €594
Taking it easy or a great introduction to walking with Bootlace, this is a week at a gentler pace with visits to Granada and the coastal nature reserve at Cantarrijan.
Based at the atmospheric Casa de Luz, restored from the original bodega (winery) in the small market town of Pitres, this is a week to enjoy being out and about in the Alpujarra without the challenge of too many steep mountainsides to negotiate on foot… As well as picnic excursions in beautiful mountainous locations with short walks, and a visit to Granada, the programme for the week includes exploring the white villages of the Alpujarra, a visit to local herbal expert and author Julio Donat and a walk through the coastal nature reserve at Cantarijjan near the historic town of Almuñecar.

Walking from Casa Rif, Cañar
2 - 9/10/10 (BL160) - price €540
Casa Rif provides tastefully furnished, light and airy accommodation on the edge of Cañar village. The south-facing balconies take advantage of the breath-taking view over the Orgiva valley and towards the sea, with glimpses, on clear days, of the Moroccan Rif mountains which give the house its name. Altogether, it’s a relaxing and comfortable base, providing good access to the less travelled mountain walks above - including Oselling Tibetan Buddhist Retreat Centre with its powerful prayer wheel - and the well known GR7 long distance path, that winds through the village, virtually passing by the front door!

Autumn in the Heights

16 - 23 October 2010 (BL161) - €590
At Fernando’s Hideaway (1700m) and including a night at the Refugio Poqueira (at 2500m) below the highest peak of the Sierra Nevada, Mulhacen (3483m) and in the highest village in Spain, Trevelez

An opportunity to enjoy seasonal sweet chestnuts and field mushrooms with autumn bird life and wild ibex to spot. During this new week of high level walking we spend the first few days at Fernando’s Cortijo. At over a mile high this is an ideal base for acclimatising to the altitude, and getting the legs in high mountain gear for exploring the tranquil Sierras de Cañar and Soportujar and later in the week gaining the Refugio Poqueira and the Siete Lagunas. Includes a night at the Refugio and another in Spain’s highest village, Trevelez.
