| “A friendly holiday, a real getaway to let go mentally, physically and materially. Simply wonderful food, inspiring yoga and a careful detox, well supervised and explained for a beginner. Expect to come home refreshed and revived.” Elizabeth Walmsley “This has been an amazing week that I have thoroughly enjoyed and would whole heartedly recommend that everyone should do! Thank you Rumana, Simon, Paul and Fi for allowing my soul the space and place to centre and grow.” Nicola Cook
About the week Simon will take you through daily yoga practice in the mornings at a gentle pace that suits you. Paul who has lived in the region for many years will take you on some spectacular walks around the region. Fi will be cooking delicious, natural wholesome food and juices will be provided along with herbal products to help you to detoxify your body organs. On top of this there will also be massage and reflexology therapies available (fees from €45). And of course Rumana will be at hand to take you through your health programme. Taking time out in Spain will give you the chance to work on your health without the constant interference from work, family, friends, etc. Everything is inclusive so you don’t have to worry about which herbs to take and when, which foods to cook and what yoga class to take or how to detox. It’s all in one place, arranged for you! If you were to head off to a specialist centre for everything included in this week, the price tab would easily run to over £2000 - however one of the goals in putting together this package is to make it affordable, so it isn’t going to cost you anywhere near £2000. | The Venue
In 2006 the Detox Week descended from its mountain venue of 2005 to a finca (farm) near the small market town of Orgiva, in the Alpujarra, Granada, Spain. Set in its own olive and orange groves with a swimming pool and grassy terraces it’s a beautiful and comfortable setting for this exceptional week. In 2007 there are two detox weeks based here. Accommodation - double and twin bedded rooms with en-suite bathrooms, with limited option for single rooms. |

| How we got here
In 2004 we met Rumana who had joined the Herbalism week which is now a regular yearly Bootlace event. During the week we had many a lively conversation during walks, in the herb garden and over the dinner table with Rumana and Simon (our yoga and Alexander Technique teacher) who had also joined the course. We were all fascinated by the use of herbs both medicinal and culinary and the idea of creating a herbal detox week inspired us. The vital ingredients would be good food - using food as healing as well as nutrition - good exercise - walking and yoga - and a healthy environment - here in the pure air and sunshine of the Sierra Nevada. In August 2005 we gathered together with 15 keen detoxers, at a remote lodge high in the Sierra Nevada National Park, for a week of purification and - suprisingly - delight. It was a life changing week for many of us - including those of us working on the course! We shared the novel experiences of downing glasses of clay and linseed, gloopy green powerfood, kidney and liver cleansing mixtures, as well as the less challenging but far more tasty meals. In fact the food was such a success that this year Rumana and Fiona are planning a detox meals recipe book. We enjoyed the benefit of herbal teas and impromtu massage from keen students walking up and down our backs. Local therapists came up to our mountain eyrie to dispense treatments as well as teaching - reflexology, aromatherapy and hot stone massage. Despite the serious aspect of detoxification the atmosphere was light, friendly and fun! At the close of the week Paul and I felt clear and energised and have continued with a healthy diet. Judging by all the feedback we were not alone - great benefit! |
