Treks in Morocco are a regular part of our yearly programme including visits to Ait Benhaddou of the beautiful mud kasbahs, ascents of the highest peak, Mount Toubkal, exploring the volcanic massive of Jbel Siroua in the saffron growing area of the northern Anti Atlas, desert trekking from Zagora to the dunes at M’hamid and trekking with camels along the verdant Atlantic coast from the beautiful town of Essaouira. In 2011 we return to the saffron-growing Siroua region and the Atlantic Coast with two contrasting itineraries

Jebl Siroua Trek - 3 to 10 March 2012

· 2 nights at a beautiful riad near the famous Jemaa el-Fna Square in the bustling city of Marrakech
· a 6 day trek with local guides and muleteers, including high quality wild camping and all food included, in the Jebl Siroua, the saffron-growing region of the Anti Atlas mountains. (Trek grading moderate to strenuous).
· A chance to visit the remote Berber villages of this area with their carpet making and spectacular agadirs (fortified granaries).
· Time to explore the fascinating city of Marrakech with its labyrinth of souks, the vibrant Jemaa el-Fna Square and the tranquil Majorelle Gardens which house the magnificent Islamic art collection of Pierre Bergé and Yves Saint Laurent

· a 4 day trek with high quality wild camping, including camel and 4×4 assistance featuring beautiful coastline with marabout shrines, long sandy beaches, rocky inlets and abundant wild flowers.
· Plenty of time to explore and enjoy Essaouira with its excellent climate - the coolest in the country in midsummer and warm in winter; relatively quiet souks selling all the range of goods to be found in Morocco including local argan oil products and exquisite marquetry, made from the fragrant local thuya wood; its 10 km long sandy bay and a rocky coastline with offshore islands
